Berkeley Center for Theoretical Physics

Opening Symposium

Friday, Oct 19 and Saturday, Oct 20

Dear registrants of the Berkeley CTP Opening Symposium,

The event is almost there! Here are a couple of last minutes items.

(0) Registration

We now have 96 registrants and there are only four slots left! Even assuming that not everybody attends the whole symposium, clearly the space is limited. Please tell your friends to register ASAP.

(1) Parking

If you are driving to Berkeley, let us know IMMEDIATELY! The symposium overlaps with the dedication of the new Tien Center for East Asian Studies, and we expect big problems with parking. We try to reserve parking spaces at LBNL so that you can walk down to campus. If you insist on parking close to the campus, check out this web page. If the UC Berkeley parking is full, your best bet is Telegraph/Channing Garage. Buy a cup of coffee to get your parking ticket validated.

(2) Sign-In

The registration desk opens at 8am in 421 LeConte. Come early so that you wouldn't miss the beginning of the symposium at 9am. Coffee and pastries will be provided.

When you get your name tag, you will also receive username and password for the AirBears wireless network, T-shirt, and some material about the Center.

(3) Venue

LeConte Hall is located at the heart of Berkeley campus very close to the landmark Sather Tower. On this interactive map, you see two LeConte Halls. Our Center is in the one on Oppenheimer Way across Gilman Hall. The big wooden door on Oppenheimer Way may be closed but is left unlocked during the symposium. Look for signs to the symposium.

The session on Friday afternoon takes place in 105 North Gate to get the Center ready for the reception. The public lecture by David Gross will be held in the auditorium at the I-House. If you are attending the whole symposium, our students will guide you along. If you are coming on Friday afternoon, make sure you know where you go before hand.

The banquet after the lecture will take place at The Bancroft Hotel with a plenty of wine and live music by a string quartet from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

(4) Optional Dinner

We will organize an optional dinner for participants on Saturday evening at Hong Kong East Ocean Restaurant in Emeryville. Let us know if you are interested.

(5) Accommodation

Even though the deadline for online booking has passed, there are still limited number of rooms available at Hilton Garden Inn in Emeryville. Let us know if you need a room on Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday night.

We are looking forward to having you all in our new Center. See you soon!

Best Regards,

Organizing Committee
